1/1/2024 0 Comments Safe harbor marinaThe perpendicular breakwater was constructed for the safe harbor/marina, as was the short one near the boat launch. The portion of this breakwater above the water had to be rebuilt and redesigned to accommodate the drive to the docks. The long breakwater stretching to the island in front of you was built in the early 1950s when the taconite processing plant was constructed. The largest armor stone used here is 28 tons., Large equipment on land and a large barge and crane on the water were required to build the breakwaters. Soft or cracked rock would soon be broken down into smaller pieces and swept away by the lake. These massive rocks must weigh over 7 tons and be hard and solid enough to withstand the pounding waves and especially the winter ice. The final layer, the only one visible, is armor stone. The second layer is filter stone, sized between small boulders to large boulders. The first layer placed in the water is of smaller rubble stone, softball to basketball size. These are called "rubble mound" breakwaters and consist of three layers. Newly opened marina., How DID they build these breakwaters?, A breakwater is like an iceberg. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Silver Bay., Other natural or developed facilities along Lake Superior's shoreline provide free access and safe harbor for boaters using public waters along this rugged coastline. It would never have been built without the full partnership of the U.S. This facility is a direct result of the plan and was the first major safe harbor/marina constructed by the DNR. The plan identified landside water access points, safe harbors, and potential marina locations. The DNR, working cooperatively with the North Shore Management Board and under the direction of the Minnesota Legislature, developed a North Shore Harbors Plan. Small boats must have a place to seek shelter., After a boating study in 1989 showed boaters had a desire to boat more often on Lake Superior, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) initiated a discussion about safe harbors. Even on sunny days in July and August, the lake can turn into a tempest in a few short minutes with gusting winds and white-capped waves. From the time of American Indians and French-Canadian Voyagers paddling their birch-bark canoes, to present day 1,000-foot bulk freighters, all must respect Lake Superior's moods and sudden changes in weather. With few exceptions, the shore is rocky and inhospitable to boaters in an emergency. , Why Safe Harbors?, Minnesota contains 150 miles of Lake Superior shoreline. Welcome to the Silver Bay Safe Harbor/Marina.

1/1/2024 0 Comments Preschool prodigiesI’m excited to try out the new songs and duets!" The program is already completely worth what I paid so it is always an delightful surprise to receive news (which happens on an almost weekly basis!) that a new song or songbook has been added to the collection! The most recent addition is a book filled with classical songs that simplifies while keeping true to compositions anywhere from Bach and Beethoven to Broadway musicals. "Prodigies is constantly developing fantastic musical resources. They can even pick out the notes on their favorite non-prodigies song and play them! I love the solid music foundation that this has given them." Music is such a joy in our home now! They have perfect pitch and can play many of the songs on multiple instruments. "I am blown away with how far my 5 and 3 year olds have come by using prodigies for the last year. It helped my kids enjoy music and learn the notes!" The colors and repetition is so engaging to them!! I’m so happy I found this during COVID. "My children have learned so much from this program! After they complete a lesson they love to teach me and practice what they learned. We are having fun and learning fundamentals of music! The kids ask for "Mr. These are all instruments we will be playing together, and it is wonderful knowing this one curriculum can carry us through all these instruments. There is a basic piano intro series that they are expanding, and then there is recorder and ukulele. We are almost done with level 1 and we can go back and do the program with piano. There is so much to this program that it truly grows with the kids. The format is fun and engaging, and the color coding and logical progression of lessons makes understanding easy. Both my children sing in key, can name notes they hear, and have an understanding of chords. I played piano for 12 years, but did not have the understanding of music that I now have since going through this program with my children. "We started Prodigies one year ago, and have absolutely loved it. My children are 7, 4, 2 and 5 months at the moment and we have had prodigies for almost 2 years now!" It is so exciting that they are always expanding and improving the courses and variety of instruments! We are able to work on different things tailored to each child and that is so great! I don't have any background in music, although I always wished I did, now I get to enjoy it along with my children! It is so neat to watch them interact and all have an understanding of the music and apply things like the associated colors or hand signs to different things in their life. "As a homeschool mom in a small town, of 2 school age children, a toddler and baby, we love prodigies! We would be stretched so thin trying to keep our kids in music lessons that we would have to travel for, plus we are always on the go anyway and this allows us to continue that lifestyle. We are lifetime members and my son wants to have the prodigies bells on his birthday cake! We love the program and the teachers and just know you will too! I’m going to have another baby and my son loved the YouTube videos immediately so much we tried out membership and quickly I realized this is the best program I’ve ever seen for music training! Not only does it teach *in a Fun way!* pitch recognition (which most programs don’t), but sight singing, notation, rhythm, the whole package! In a fun and logical progression, then add the fact that there are piano, ukelele, and recorder lessons and you just can’t beat the value, price, and convenience. "In less than a month I knew I had to get lifetime membership. "We use Prodigies at our school and love it! We enjoy our lifetime membership that let's us prep for multiple classes with ease! We love how Prodigies is making quality music education accessible for our generation!" Here, landscape professionals share their expert tips for lighting different areas of the landscape. Yet for homeowners, choosing which areas to light can be a challenge. Outdoor lights even deter burglars and reduce crime. Landscape lights also serve a number of needs, from letting you walk safely down a flagstone path at night, to giving you a place to spend time with your family after school and work. It can also be used to enhance safety and security, to accent special trees or plantings, and to create a festive atmosphere for outdoor entertaining. Proper outdoor lighting design allows you to highlight focal points and hide eyesores. Lighting can be one of the most important aspects of landscape and hardscape design, yet it is often overlooked or underdone. A growing number of homeowners are capturing this magic in their gardens through "nightscaping," one of the hottest trends in outdoor home improvement today. It adds interest and intrigue to any setting. It provides a warm, inviting ambiance that beckons us outdoors. Soft lighting in a dark outdoor environment is nothing short of magic. Hardwiring the hardscaping as it is being built is the ideal situation, but if that’s not an option, it is likely that low-voltage and solar lighting can be retro-fitted.While many of us are working hard and putting in long hours on the job, we often don't get a chance to see our homes until after dark. So, it only makes sense that they’re going to integrate lighting into these structures. They’re building more permanent hardscaping like retaining walls, staircases, fireplaces and outdoor kitchens. Hardscape lighting: Over the last few years homeowners are increasingly investing in their outdoor living spaces. The DSA provides a list of manufacturers that sell dark-sky-approved products. When shopping for new lighting, look for the Dark Sky Approved seal. The International Dark Sky Association (DSA) suggests using lighting that is warm or a lower color temperature - no more than 3,000 Kelvins (the higher the Kelvin, the bluer it is). Blue lights brighten the sky more than any other color. Dark-sky-friendly lighting is shielded (points downward) and contains minimal blue light. Many communities are implementing dark sky initiatives and codes to regulate light pollution. Plus, too much artificial light can affect human health, as well as wildlife, and is a waste of energy.

I would highly recommend the game to fans of point-and-click adventures. The hand-crafted background and characters give Lumino City a charming vibe which outweighs any minor flaws that may exist in the games's puzzles. ~ Puzzles have a good variety of difficulty.Įver since I played and completed Lume (2011), I couldn't wait to play the original. + A larger and more fulfilling experience compared to Lume makes sense, because my impression was that Lume intentionally acts as a teaser to Lumino City. The world of Lumino City is hand-crafted. Total Game Time: 6.7 hours = 4.4 hours (Steam) + 2.3 hours (Offline) Steam Game Time: 3.0 hours (Session Game Time) Looking for answers, I found a Steam thread where some users explained that down means "subtract one" and up means "add one". Regardless, we subsequently managed to figure out a couple of the mysterious pairings, but we were still left without the reasoning behind the pairs matched with the arrows (down 2 and up 1 down 3). There was no explanation for the different pairings. I manually went through the book and found the solution (on page 777), but it was just a solution with a poor hint. The Verge One of the most alluring visual extravaganzas in recent memory. I decided to revisit the puzzle after we completed the game. Lumino City has a distinct and wonderful personality. I tried looking the solution up in the Handy Manual, but the hint for finding the page is (probably) wrong. Thinking about it now, Lume's ability to reach and jump is inconsistent throughout the game, and so perhaps it should have come to less of a surprise.Īfter the Spinner House, there was a puzzle with a circuit board and while we were able to solve it, we didn't completely understand the reason behind some of the pairings. My criticism has to deal with Lume's height. Eventually we looked up the solution in the Handy Manual and the solution was a little silly. Total Game Time: 221 minutes (or approximately 3.7 hours) = 79 minutes (Steam) + 142 minutes (Offline)įor the Spinner House, we were stuck on what to do with the hammer and nails. Game Time: 45 minutes (Session Game Time) With help of a hint from the handymanual which Lumi finds at the start of the game, Ada figured out how to obtain the salt. We started by redoing The Captain (potatoes/bird/water tank/rowing). The rains caused the power to go out and so Ada and I decided to play some Lumino City. *I learned on 20180301 that the reason I had to replay the level was because I clicked on the chapter icon instead of clicking "Resume" (which was obscured by the chapter icons). Steam Game Time: 79 minutes (Session Game Time) Both games feature an environment which has been hand-crafted.Īda and I played Lumino City today and we made progress up to The Lightwell.Īfter settling down at our Airbnb, Ada and I decided to play some more. Aside from solving puzzles, some of which incorporate minigames in the vein of Machinarium or Samorost, some swinging and climbing sections require clicking certain objects at the right time.Overview: A point-and-click adventure which is a direct sequel to Lume (2011). Most of the game takes place in the city, so houses and streets are natural environments in the game. Some of them revolve around interacting with Lumino City’s townsfolks that asks Lumi for help in exchange for opening her way to the next level. The game consists of several levels, each of them usually takes two-to-three screens. Her backpack serves the role of in-game inventory and fits many items required to solve in-game puzzles. The game uses a mouse to control Lumi and interact with objects. Lumino City is a point-and-click adventure game with heavy emphasis on puzzle solving. While the main character is CGI, all of the environments are crafted by developers using cardboard, paper, wood, and other crafts materials. The game is notable for its paper cut-out art style. One day the grandad gets kidnaped, and now she must go to the nearby Lumino City to find him. The game follows Lumi, a simple girl that lives with her grandad. Lumino City is a puzzle-adventure video game developed by State of Play Games and a sequel to 2011 title Lume. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Us highspeed railSection 1103 (c) authorized six additional corridor designations, for a total of eleven, as well as the extension of other previously designated corridors. 1998-2004: FRA designates an additional 6 HSR Corridorsġ998 – 1999 – The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) (PL 105-178) passes. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Almond cookieI liked it so I kept it in, because it brings an extra something-something to these cookies. But this particular recipe is one loosely based on a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe which includes the cherries. I loved it, so I stole the idea!ĭried cherries (optional) – You won’t see dried cherries in traditional Italian Almond cookie recipe. Italian readers, perhaps you can shed some light on this? But it’s how an Italian bakery in Sydney makes these cookies. Pretty sure it’s not strictly traditional. So the crispy toasted almond crust makes these biscuits more like what my narrow mind thinks of as cookies – crispy outside, softer inside. Without the almonds, the outside of the cookies are quite soft and need to be handled rather gently to ensure you don’t crush them.Īlso, from an eating perspective, when it’s soft on the outside and inside, my mind thinks “ CAKE!!!!” and gets all confused that it’s actually a cookie. Easily found these days in the baking aisle of grocery stores įlaked almonds (optional) – These are used to coat the cookies which gives it a terrific textural crust and extra almond flavour. While I have not made these particular cookies with almond flour, I am confident they will work based on other recipes where I’ve interchanged the two, such as this Orange Cake Īlmond extract – Made from the oil of almonds, this adds a rich almond flavour to anything you add it to. It is lighter in colour (because the brown skin is removed) and it has a finer texture the almond flavour is slightly less. You can also make your own by blitzing 250g/ 9oz raw, unpeeled, unsalted almonds in a powerful blender (I use a Vitamix) until it becomes a fine powder.Īlmond flour is different, it is made with blanched, peeled almonds, blitzed until it becomes powder form. It’s easily found nowadays, sold in the bakery, dried fruit & nut section and/or health food section of grocery stores. It is literally raw almonds that are blitzed into a fine powder. Here’s what you need to make these Almond Cookies:Īlmond meal (aka Ground Almonds) – This is what we use instead of flour for these gluten free cookies. But they’re perfectly perfect – to eat!!! What goes in Italian Almond Cookies Others will miss out.Īnd that’s ok! These are cookies that are meant to be perfectly imperfect – to look at. Some will have more than their fair share of dried cherries in them. Some bits might have a double layer of almonds. There will be almond bits sticking out here and there, you might end up with some bald patches. These nubbly little balls will be a bit wonky. And in my world, what that means is don’t get hung up about making them look perfect. If there’s one word that captures these cookies, it’s rustic. They keep for 10 days, and because they’re gluten free and dairy free, everybody can enjoy them! Italian Almond Cookies Called Ricciarelli, these Italian Almond Cookies are chewy on the inside, filled with wonderful almond flavour and studded with dried cherries. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Need for speed carbon walkthroughsGo and conquer Silverton focus your attacks on the East and northern East of Silverton to unlock tier 3 racing performance parts Lastly you'll need to use Nikki's drafting ability to gain more speed and to catch up with other racersĭon't bother conquering the race war race in Fortuna you'll need a fully upgraded tier 3 top muscle car Corvette in order to that Then go and conquer Fortuna till you face Wolf, he's the easiest boss you should overtake him in the first 10 seconds of the race also there are no tight corners whatsoeverĪt this point you'll unlock Silverton this is where the game steps its difficulty to Hard whyīecause now other crews are using tier 3 cars so how to solve this problem ?įirst of all you need to use either DB9, Dodge Challenger R/T or Mercedes SL65 fully upgradedĭon't use Kenji's ride it's a tuner without good acceleration and performance you won't stand a chance against other tier 3 rides This is the ideal time to unlock Iron wall reward card first start a race in an enemy controller territory then exit it to free roam doing this few times will trigger a defensive race do this till you win 20 defensive races till you unlock Iron Wall, keep in mind that you need to use Dodge Challenger R/T because muscle cars are the best when it comes to speedtracers races With semi fully upgraded Dodge Challenger R/T you should have no problem overtaking Kenji in the first 10 seconds of the race but be careful the first corner of the Canyon duel is tight and it'll require a bit of skills to beat Kenji but from few tries you should overtake him in the First 10 seconds of the raceĪfter you beat Kenji upgrade your Dodge Challenger suspension part to pro then conquer the two race wars in Downtown and Kempton Small Tip tune the performance parts of engine and transmission to the far left to increase its acceleration that'll help in Canyon duel The pro suspension performance part is unlocked after you beat Kenji instead there should be a race in Fortune to unlock the street suspension performance part Then get your hands on Dodge Challenger R/T then fully upgrade it With a bit of skills you should have no problem overtaking Angie with Nissan in the first round of the Canyon duelĪfter you beat Angie go for downtown and conquer Kenji's territoriesĪfter you unlock the boss race with Kenji don't race him conquer other races and territories in Fortune to unlock more tier 2 performance parts you'll find these territories in the far West of Kempton Try to purshace Nissan 240 SX and sell your starter muscle car you'll need an overpowered tuner ride to beat Angie and Nissan 240 SX is the best out there That'll require NFS Carbon the collector edition I was using Cheat Engine to get unlimited cash and the best rides, if you don't want to use it consider using Samson, Nikki and Yumi to get the highest amount of money possibleįirst of all after the chase with Cross you'll presented to choose one of these classes cars ( Exotic, Muscle, Tuner )Ĭhoose Muscle to unlock Dodge Challenger R/T you'll need this ride to overtake the other bosses in the first 10 seconds of the Canyon duelīefore that unlock Nissan 240 SX by completing its challenge races requirement because this is the best tier 1 ride Gives you: spoiler Related subreddits: /r/NFSRides /r/NFSNoLimits /r/SimRacing /r/GranTurismo /r/forzaįor a full list of automotive-related subreddits, see the Autos Network.
